Speak When Callee Has Been Silent For

Taalk introduces a configurable setting that enables AI Agents to speak automatically after the callee has been silent for a defined period. This enhances engagement by allowing the agent to re-initiate conversation based on user inactivity.

Overview

Taalk now includes a configurable setting that allows AI Agents to automatically speak when the callee (the person the bot is interacting with) has been silent for a specified duration. This feature enhances conversation flow by enabling the AI Agent to re-engage or prompt the callee after a configurable period of inactivity, improving responsiveness and reducing conversational dead-ends.

Feature Description

The “Speak when callee has been silent for” option is part of the Advanced Agent Behaviors configuration and allows administrators to define the maximum time the agent should wait before proactively speaking if the callee remains silent.

Available Options:

5 seconds

10 seconds

15 seconds

30 seconds

Never (default) – Agent will not auto-speak on silence

When enabled, the bot will automatically speak using a contextually appropriate prompt if the callee does not respond within the selected interval. This helps maintain engagement and mimics natural conversational pacing.

Use Cases

Sales Follow-ups: Re-engage leads who pause mid-conversation.

Support Automation: Prevent drop-offs during self-service flows.

Voice UX Optimization: Adapt to user hesitation or indecision in real-time.

Configuration Steps

1.Navigate to Agent Settings > Advanced Agent Behaviors.

2.Locate the setting “Speak when callee has been silent for”.

3.Choose one of the available time intervals from the dropdown.

4.Save the configuration.

Technical Notes

•This setting affects both inbound and outbound voice calls.

•The silence timer resets on each callee utterance.

•Configurable via the UI; API support available (refer to Swagger documentation for endpoint details).

Best Practices

•Use shorter silence durations (5–10s) for transactional or prompt-based interactions.

•Use longer durations (15–30s) for open-ended or exploratory conversations.

•Avoid over-prompting in high-context discussions to maintain natural engagement.
