Using Your Own Twilio (BYOT) with Taalk Telco
Summary
Taalk gives you flexibility in how you connect your telecom layer.
You can either use Taalk Telco directly or Bring Your Own Twilio (BYOT) — keeping your Twilio account, Caller IDs, and 10DLC registrations intact while letting Taalk handle AI routing, engagement tracking, and analytics.
Overview
When integrating with Taalk, you have two main paths:
-
Porting: You move number ownership to Taalk’s carrier SID.
-
BYOT (Bring Your Own Twilio): You keep your Twilio setup and let Taalk “borrow” your lines for calls, texts, and AI engagements.
BYOT is typically the best option — faster, keeps control in your hands, and requires no re-registration.

How BYOT Works
When you connect your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token, Taalk uses your Twilio environment to handle:
-
Outbound calling and SMS
-
AI logic, routing, and campaign orchestration
-
Real-time engagement analytics and compliance tracking
You keep your billing, compliance, and number management inside Twilio.
Taalk handles everything above the telecom layer — the orchestration, automation, and insights.
📊 Reporting & Analytics
You can view full performance data in the Taalk Dashboard or export data from Twilio to supplement your own reporting.
Taalk’s system captures status events such as:
Voicemail reached, Busy signal, Tri-tone, No answer, Partial or Full survey completion, Transfers, DNC requests, etc.
If you want to blend these metrics with Twilio’s own event data, you can append Twilio analytics directly to your Taalk reports.
☎ Caller ID, Spam Likely & “Cleaning”
Caller IDs continue to work as they do inside Twilio.
However, if your numbers are flagged as Spam Likely, you may need to “clean” them.
What is Cleaning?
Cleaning is the process of removing spam flags and restoring trust with carriers.
It involves:
-
CNAM and identity re-registration
-
Gradual “warm-up” of outbound activity
-
Carrier-level spam removal (paid service)
Once cleaned, your numbers will show proper Caller IDs and achieve higher contact rates.
Taalk offers optional number cleaning services. Contact your Solutions Engineer for setup.
📦 Porting Explained
Porting is only necessary if you want Taalk to take full control of numbers, billing, and compliance.
When you port:
-
Taalk becomes the official owner of the numbers
-
You no longer pay Twilio directly
-
A2P 10DLC campaigns must be re-registered
-
Numbers appear natively in Taalk’s Telco management portal
When to Port:
-
You want centralized billing
-
You need Taalk to manage multiple brands and registrations
-
You want Taalk’s full CNAM and compliance automation stack
⚙ Frequently Asked Questions (Collapsible)
Q: Can we manage our numbers through our own Twilio account?
A: Yes. In BYOT mode, you fully manage your Twilio numbers, Caller IDs, and 10DLC registrations. Taalk only uses your telco layer for call and message execution — you stay in control of everything else.
Q: Will Caller IDs still show correctly when using BYOT?
A: Yes. Caller IDs are part of your Twilio setup and remain active. However, if a number is flagged as “Spam Likely,” Taalk can assist with cleaning or re-registering it to restore trust.
Q: Do we lose our 10DLC or Voice Identity registration?
A: No. Under BYOT, all your registrations stay active within your Twilio account. Porting, however, requires new registrations under Taalk’s SID.
Q: Can we access Twilio analytics directly?
A: Absolutely. You can pull detailed Twilio data and append it to Taalk’s engagement reports for additional event-level granularity.
Q: Is the engagement fee different if we use our own Twilio?
A: No. Engagement fees remain identical whether you use Taalk Telco or BYOT.
Important Notes
-
Taalk does not open external APIs for BYOT accounts — execution flows through Taalk.
-
Engagement fees are identical across both options.
-
You can connect a master Twilio account if managing multiple client environments.
-
10DLC, Brand, and Voice Identity certifications remain under your Twilio account.
Quick Decision Guide
Choose BYOT if:
You want to retain Twilio ownership, billing, and 10DLC control. You will have double the cost tho.
Choose Porting if:
You want Taalk to manage all telco operations, registrations, and billing under one infrastructure.
